Say What You Need to Say

“Say what you need to say” – lyrics to a popular song. Yet, who actually listens to and heeds the profound wisdom its words contain? Granted, I wouldn’t take the advice of most songs written today, but this one strikes gold in my book. And, believe me, I know that it is easier said than done to follow its advice (advice that is actually thousands of years old), but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try.

“Take all of your wasted honor
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so-called problems
Better put ’em in quotations…

Walking like a one man army
Fighting with the shadows in your head…

You’d better know that in the end
It’s better to say too much
Than never say what you need to say again

Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open

Say what you need to say…” excerpts from Say, performed by John Mayer
